Tarion Warranty Corporation
Tarion Warranty Corporation
Established in 1976, the Tarion Warranty Corporation (a private corporation) was created for the purposes of protecting the rights of new home buyers, as well as to determine regulations for new home builders. Administered by Tarion, the Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act states the details of warranty protection that condominium and new home builders are responsible by law to provide to their customers. Tarion ensures that builders honour this legislation and they also take the initiative to step in and intervene in protecting consumers when builders neglect to fulfill their warranty obligations.
As the regulators of Ontario’s new home building industry, Tarion ensures that these legislations are enforced. They accomplish this through the registration of new home builders and vendors, exploring illegal building practices, fostering high standards of construction among new home builders, acting as the intermediary for disputes between consumers, builders and vendors and by registering new homes for warranty coverage. Additionally, Tarion works to educate new home buyers about their warranty rights, as well as how they can protect and maintain those warranties.
